Magic Kingdom at Disney World is the original Florida GOAT theme park. The nostalgia alone is worth wading through the crowds, but if you want to ride an attraction, you are going to wait a while.
Every Disney theme park has an area that you just stare at while wondering, “What in God’s name were they thinking?” The same can be said for Magic Kingdom.
That being said, there are also attractions that have lost their luster, their joy, and even first-time visitors won’t care if they end up removed, rebranded, and replaced.
Magic Kingdom can add new lands, but please replace these wasted attractions
Ariel’s Grotto – Fantasy Land
While there is nothing wrong with the Little Mermaid Ride, the meet and greet grotto is a lot of wasted space. The exterior is nice, but let’s face it, nothing behind the Seven Dwarfs Mine Ride is worth visiting aside from the Little Mermaid attraction.
With so much real estate that could be developed into just about anything else, a long inside walking trail just spent a minute or two with Ariel is a bit of a waste. Have her meet children across the street.
The Diamond Horseshoe – Liberty Square
Sorry, Disney, but while we love Liberty Tree Tavern and the family-style menu, do we really need another one right next door? The Diamond Horseshoe offers nothing more than a change of interior. The food is the same, the menu is exactly the same, and the prices are the same. So why are there two of them side by side? For lack of a better explanation, creativity.
Monsters Inc., Laugh Factory – Tomorrowland
Considering this is in no particular order, we would rank this one number one if needed. There is no use for this space other than to get people out of the heat and into the AC. This show is not only boring for adults, but most kids don’t care either. The building would be better left empty.
The empty Stitch Escape building – Tomorrowland
This isn’t about replacing an existing attraction or duplicate diner; this is about getting rid of an entire building that has had nothing in it for more than a decade and a half. It is entirely a wasted space. Turn it into a lounge for guests to get out of the sun, or maybe a dining hall. Something, instead of whatever it isn’t now.
